Chat and mentions
Updated 18 May 2026
Tyto's chat is built around the work, not the channel. Every task has its own thread; every project has its own room. The conversation about the spring relaunch lives next to the spring relaunch's tasks — not three Slack channels away.
It's also deliberately closer to WhatsApp than Slack — rooms, messages, media, reactions, calls. We made that call for the half of every team who refuse to learn another "channels and /commands" interface. They open WhatsApp every day; the shape of Tyto's chat should be familiar within a minute.
Where chat lives
- On a task — comments and reactions interleave with the activity log on the right of the task editor. You see what was said and what was done in one timeline.
- In a project room — a single shared room per project, for the stuff that doesn't belong on one specific task. Group info, member list, room rename — all under the Group info button at the top.
@-mentions
Type @ and start typing a name. Pick the person. They get a notification — push, email, both, or neither, depends on their settings. The mention is a link too — tapping it opens that person's profile.
@firstnamementions one person@everyonenotifies the whole project's members. Use rarely.
Mentions on tasks land in the mentioned person's My Tasks for acknowledgement. A 👍 or a reply clears it from their list — they don't have to scroll back through threads to triage what's outstanding.
Voice and video calls — from the room
Inside any project room, tap Call in the header. Audio or video, powered by LiveKit, joins in a second. No Zoom URLs to paste, no calendar invites, no "let me find the link." The fastest path from "we should hop on a call" to actually being on one.
Replies via email
Get a notification email for a mention or a task you follow? Just hit reply. The reply lands on the task as a comment. Attach a file and it uploads to the task. You don't have to open Tyto for the response itself — the email round-trip works.
Reactions
Hover any comment (or status change) → emoji button. Drop a 👍, 🔥, 🚀. Saves a "thanks!" reply for things that don't need one.
Real-time sync — what moves under your feet and what doesn't.
